Spring Break Special: The Creation Museum in Kentucky

Hello dear ones :). Last week my hubby had spring break. We were able to take a quick trip to Kentucky and spend a day at the Creation Museum. I have so many pictures that this had to be it’s own post.

Adam naming the animals

Adam didn’t name every species of animal…simply the kinds. There is a big difference between species and kind. For example, a poodle is a species of dog but “dog” is the kind. There are many species of birds but they are all of one kind…they are all birds.

And so the fall begins…

and with it comes the curse. The whole world changes. Sin must be atoned for by the shedding of blood.

The world, once a paradise, suddenly has death, sickness, burdensome work, and evil.

Animals that once ate vegetables are now carnivores. Yes, there are herbivores with sharp teeth (think Panda and fruit bat).

Creatures now have venom. There are briars and thorns. These things were not so before the fall of man. The earth was a peaceful place with no death. Death came only because of sin.

This scary thing moved!

The first family (the real first family lol) tilling the ground. Man’s curse was burdensome work. Before the fall man enjoyed tending the garden with ease but now the land is cursed and the soil hard. Woman was cursed with painful child birth.

Cain and Abel~ the first murder and it was by a brother. People often scoff at the idea of hell and how could a small sin like eating from the wrong tree bring about such a curse. We forget that the nastiest of sins (molestation, horrendous murders, and genocide) all start from what we call small sins. The seed of hatred and un-forgiveness can become murder. God has already told us this by Jesus saying that hating our fellow man in our heart is the same as murder. Lust can turn into pedophilia and the worst sexual atrocities. We naturally hate what we see as the really bad stuff but we should hate sin at it’s beginning because it’s all the same in God’s eyes. All of it leads to death. God loves us and He hates sin and what it did to us and all of His beautiful creation.  God hated sin so much and loved us with such a passion that He HIMSELF became the blood sacrifice to save us. That’s awesome. Praise Jesus for being our redeemer!

I loved the section on Noah’s ark. So many think the world wide flood is a myth. Yet there is evidence all around us. All the fossils and what caused the Ice Age. What carved the canyons? It all makes sense when you consider the flood. Not only did the waters of the deep burst open but also the ring of water around the earth fell. This is why so much of our world is ocean now. The flood changed everything. I encourage you to check out the creation museum website above and read about the flood.

The ark was huge and when you consider how much bigger people were before the flood then a cubit is a lot. Before the flood the world was like a huge green house. Everything was bigger. The ring of water around the earth (talked about in the book of Job) protected everyone from the sun’s harmful rays. This explains how people lived hundreds and hundreds of year. Also how ancient structures were built with out modern machinery. Big people (what we’d consider giants) can build big buildings easily…and big boats. Also, it is very likely that Noah hired workers to help him build the ark. He also worked on this thing for nearly a hundred years.

Methuselah was Noah’s grandpa and he was 969 when he died. You got it! Almost a millennium! He was old enough to know Adam and to meet his grandson Noah.  I loved the talking “Methuselah” at the museum.

On to the flood…

I believe Genesis is literal….creation…the flood…everything. It’s not a poetic book. It’s not full of symbols like Revelation. Genesis is an account and there’s no reason for me to interpret one part of the book as allegory and another as true. That’s silly. The book is written as an account of the beginning. The Bible interprets itself…that’s exegesis. If I try to make the Bible say what I want it to say and don’t take into account the context, the culture, and the language then that’s eisegesis. I call exegesis the “common sense” method and I’m glad my Dad taught it to me. I would interpret any book in such a manner. I don’t know why people treat the Bible differently. I’m not saying we should argue over this. If one really wants to know then they can research for themselves. Usually people who argue over these things really don’t want to know the truth. They just like to argue. But I will say this: how you interpret scripture not only affects your view of creation but it can also affect how you view the gospel. If you can twist one section of scripture then who’s to say you won’t twist what the Bible says about Jesus. Now that’s scary and I pray for all of us teaching God’s Word. We have a heavy burden on our shoulders and a huge responsibility. Never take that lightly.

This was not a low budget hole in the wall. This museum had it’s stuff straight. I like all the interactive things for kids.

This had to be my favorite part….asking Noah questions. Like how did he get dinosaurs on the ark? First off, biblically it wasn’t Noah that got all the animals on the ark. It was God. There’s no way Noah could have rounded them all up. Another neat thing was pointed out, he was to bring every kind….not every species. We talked about this before.  So as long as he brought dogs then it was good.  He didn’t have to bring a poodle, a border collie, and a bull dog (note: this is just an example. I know that certain dog kinds came about because of humans breeding them and domestication. I know this happened much later.) Anywho, I hope you see my point. Also, there is nothing that says Noah had to bring adult animals. Babies would live longer and produce more. Baby dinosaurs (or what they would’ve called dragons. Dinosaur is a modern word) were much easier to care for.

For some reason I didn’t post these pictures but they even showed how the animals could have been caged and cared for. The system they showed made complete sense. There was even a place on the ark for growing food. They really take care of most any question you could have about life on the ark.

The next pics show how natural selection is not evolution. There are many changes among kinds of animals. Some cat kinds have spots and some stripes but everyone will agree that they are all a “kind” of cat. Humans adapt and change but we are still human kind. Evolution is about more than changes within a kind. It says that a kind can evolve into a different kind…just a silly example but like a dog changing into a cat. We have observed changes within the kinds but we have never observed one kind changing into a completely different kind. Horses don’t turn into birds and monkeys for sure don’t turn into humans.  So many of the “fossils” they use to prove that humans evolved have been dis-proven a long time ago. Check out the web site and look up “Lucy”. They can give you more info than me. I’m not very good at memorizing things like this.

This poster shows how the tower of Babel explains why humans have different cultures and races. God scattered the people by confusing their languages. People with the same language went off together and adapted to the environment they were in.

I love this poster. God’s word is clear that all nations come from ONE blood. This completely throws prejudice and racism out the door.

Hey do I know you?

Look it’s Nessie! I do wish they had made an exhibit about leviathan…especially since it’s one of my favorite creatures in my book. Our Dragons/ Dinosaurs book talks about leviathan. Yeah, it would’ve been a lot bigger. If this is a leviathan at all then it’s a newborn. Nifty statue…

There was a movie about Christ being our redeemer. This museum isn’t about arguing with atheist. The whole point is to lead people to Christ and that’s what it does from Genesis to the gospels. They really explained how two different world views can change everything. The archaeologist himself is a creationist but works in harmony with his partner that believes in evolution. It is completely possible to have two different world views and still love each other. In fact, our faith should spur us on to really love and pray for those who won’t accept Christ. We can embrace Truth and Love at the same time. Real love speaks the truth with Grace.

The camel is a snob but this zedonkey (did I get that right?) is super friendly.

This is an albino peacock. The peacocks were awesome! The museum lets them run around free. They stay nearby because of food.

These fellas strutted their stuff and flew around where ever they wanted….sometimes visiting the other animals. They really ruled the roost!

You can definitely see how easy it was for the T-rex to become a carnivore after the fall. I can also see how he was once an herbivore though….look at those teeny tiny arms.

After eating at Noah’s cafe we checked out the Dragon gift shop.

We bought some dinosaur toys and I got this nifty sign. It’s perfect for my “office”. I have some interesting dragons in my book, The Truth Seeker’s Chronicles: #1 The Curse.

Anywho, I know this is a controversial subject but oh well. I’m not great at apologetics and I definitely don’t want to argue with strangers on the internet. If you have serious questions and really want to know about creation science then please check out the website at the beginning. They can answer you better than me. If you want to argue then please find someone else to do it with.

As for me and my family, we enjoyed the museum and it was nice to stay in a hotel lol. It was great to see snow on the drive up, even if it was a nine hour drive. It was also nice to be able to come back to our humble home afterwards. Have you ever been to the museum in Ky? Is so what did you think?
